Step-by-Step Fiberglass Roofing Process for Lasting Protection

Home / Our Team

Step by step. ZERO Surprises.

Onsite Inspection & Quote

We will conduct a full inspection of your fiberglass surfaces—including the pilot house, parapet wall caps, deck and/or balcony floor, and all joints and seams where the fiberglass meets doors, windows, and railings—to identify any problem areas and assess the extent of damage.

If we find an active leak, we will locate the source, determine the best course of action, and provide you with a same-day quote for the necessary repairs.

Some of the key issues we’ll be checking for include:

  • Soft spots – may indicate a failing subfloor caused by wood rot

  • Cracks or chipped fiberglass – common points of water entry

  • Leak sources at seams and joints – frequent areas of failure

  • Shifting floor – could result from poor installation or a missing plywood layer

  • Improper sloping – causes water to pool and remain on the surface

  • Scupper box height, sloping, and drainage – ensures proper water flow off the deck

Demolition & Repair

Demolition will begin as soon as our team arrives. Please ensure the job site is cleared of any furniture, plants, or equipment prior to our arrival.

We will remove any rotted or damaged wood and replace it with new plywood. (AC/BC grade untreated wood is essential to ensure proper, long-lasting adhesion.)

When necessary, we will build new caps using smooth-finished plywood. A 1×6 AZEK composite PVC material will also be installed as a drip edge to help prevent future water damage.

All seams and joints will be sealed with putty and then sanded to create a smooth, seamless transition between old and new surfaces.

Fiberglass Application

We’re now ready for the fiberglass application, a two-part process consisting of a fiberglass membrane and a resin activator that, when combined, create a durable, waterproof finish.

The fiberglass membrane will be applied over the newly sanded plywood and the areas that were just repaired, as well as patching and sealing any cracks in existing fiberglass surfaces that did not require demolition.

Depending on the extent of the repair, the siding or stucco may need to be removed—either by our team or a third party—partially or entirely. This allows fiberglass to be applied at least 10" up the parapet wall from the floor, ensuring a seamless, continuous barrier between the floor and wall to prevent water intrusion into the parapet wall behind the siding/stucco.

Fiberglass will also be applied around stack pipes and vents to ensure a proper, watertight seal.

Once the fiberglass has cured, we will prepare the area for gel coat application with a second round of sanding to promote strong adhesion and achieve a smooth, professional finish.

Gel Coat & Finish

The final step in the repair process is the resealing coat. We use a high-performance gel coat that provides a durable, water-repellent surface with a clean luster that is easy to maintain. For safety, a fine fiber additive is incorporated to create a slip-resistant finish.

We offer a variety of colors, though we recommend Stone Edge and Pebble, as these are the most popular choices and are always kept in stock.

The surface will be fully cured and ready for foot traffic within 48 hours. Once it has dried completely, you may resume normal use without restriction.
